How long does the Needs Assessment take to complete?

The process begins with a 5-minute sustainability snapshot that provides a quick overview of your camp’s current practices.

If you choose to continue, the full assessment takes about 20–30 minutes and explores areas like energy, water, waste, food service, and camp operations in more detail.

You can start with the snapshot and return later to complete the rest.

Is the Needs Assessment really free?

Yes. The Green Camps Sustainability Snapshot and Needs Assessment are completely free.

Our goal is to help camps better understand their sustainability opportunities and identify practical next steps.

Do we need to already have sustainability programs in place?

Not at all.

Many camps use the assessment as their first step in exploring sustainability. The tool is designed to help camps at any stage — from just getting started to expanding existing initiatives.

What happens after we complete the assessment?

You’ll have the option to schedule a conversation with the Green Camps team to review your results, ask questions, and explore possible next steps.

Many camps use this conversation to begin forming a Green Team or identifying priority sustainability projects.

Does completing the assessment commit us to anything?

No. The assessment is simply a tool to help your camp explore sustainability opportunities.

If you decide you’d like additional support, Green Camps offers consulting services such as Green Team launch workshops, sustainability planning, and staff training, but there is no obligation to participate.

Can multiple staff members work on the assessment?

Yes. Many camps complete the assessment collaboratively with leadership, operations staff, and food service teams.

This can be a great starting point for building a Green Team and engaging staff in sustainability planning.

Can I update my responses later?

As your camp’s sustainability efforts evolve, you can revisit the assessment to update information and explore new opportunities.
